Yota Ayaan, Plant Data
Galeria da Biodiversidade, Porto, Portugal
06 June —
27 June 2021
Until June 27, the Hall of Biodiversity will host the project Plant Data, by Aotearoa artist Yota Ayaan in collaboration with Mariana Sottomayor and Stefaan Van Leuven.
Plant Data is a project at the intersection of art and science that interprets data from plants into sound. The artwork consists of dozens of ash trees and a multi-channel speaker system installed throughout the Galeria da Biodiversidade. The space hums with a twenty-four hour sound work, based on numerical data obtained from the ‘acoustic emissions’, or AEs, of the ash tree recorded by a latest generation acquisition system in the laboratory of Kathy Steppe at the University of Ghent.
