Harete Tito, Akunumustiǂis (Natural Law) residency
Banff Art Centre, Banff, Canada
02 October —
27 October 2023
Harete Tito (Taranaki, Ngāti Pikiao, Tūhourangi-Ngāti Wāhiao) is one of eight visual artists selected for the 2023 Akunumustiǂis (Natural Law) - Ecological Engagement Through the Seasons residency at Banff Art Centre. Running over four weeks, the residency uses land-based, observational learning to support the artist in developing a project that will inform the cultural narratives of the region.
The project is reconciliation-based through the empowerment of Indigenous artists, working with institutions through a process that allows for meaningful engagement with the land; including Banff National Park, Parks Canada and local Knowledge Keepers. Working together, the process encourages knowledge exchange and centres Indigenous ways of knowing.

01 March —
31 March 2018
Presented at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in March 2018 after her residency, In Reading begins with research into a number of serial publications produced between 1970–1990 collected in the LAGANZ collection held at The National Library of New Zealand. By focusing on material produced by small presses, independent organisations, activists and artists, this ongoing project works to locate modes of representation that connect to histories that have evolved outside of more widely documented publishing practices. This series will further developed for an exhibition to be presented at Enjoy Public Art Gallery in mid-2018.
